The total cost for a printed basic t-shirt will typically be between $13 and $18 depending on your order volume. This might sound expensive, but if you're retailing your t-shirts for $25 you will still be making $7-$12 per shirt, which is not a bad margin for ZERO up-front cost or risk of losing money. While screen printed tees are cheaper per piece, they may not be the most profitable solution for you. We talk about why that is here.
Below is a breakdown of the costs of our products and services in more detail. Pricing is made up of 3 components: item cost + print cost + shipping cost. We break down all those costs in detail below.

Shipping & Handling
DropShipDTG charges shipping rates based on current United States Postal Service prices. We offer both first class and priority mail.
There is a $1.00 handling fee for each order received. Your USPS postage rate will be calculated based on the weight of your shipment and your chosen shipping method. When we ship your parcel, the actual cost of the shipment will not be displayed on the packaging, so you don't have to worry about your customers nitpicking over actual shipping charges vs your shipping charges.
Generally speaking domestic first class shipments for a single shirt will be $4.00 or less (including handling), priority shipments on a single shirt are around $8.50 (including handling). If you'd like a guideline for what to charge customers for domestic shipping, we suggest a base rate of $4 with a $2 surcharge for each additional item. This will usually cover your costs if you are going to do first class mail for all domestic shipments under 13 ounces.
For shipments to Canada, a single shirt can usually be shipped via first class mail for around $10.00 and via priority for around $32 (including handling). Adding a second shirt to a shipment going to Canada brings usually your postage cost for first class shipping costs to $16.00 for first class (same shipment going via Priority mail would still cost around $32).
For shipments to other countries, a single shirt can usually be shipped via first class mail for around $14.50 and via priority for around $42.00 (including handling). Adding a second shirt to a shipment going to Canada brings usually your postage cost for first class shipping costs to around $23.00 for first class (same shipment going via Priority mail would still cost around $42).
Please keep in mind that the postal rates quoted above are guidelines based on average weights of shipments, your actual shipping charge may be slightly more or less depending on your final shipment weight. Please don't send us an angry email if your shipment costs a little more or less than the rates mentioned here, m'kay? If you need a complete rate table for USPS shipping costs please contact USPS. Tshirts generally weigh between 4 and 8 ounces depending on size. Sweatshirts usually weigh 13 to 18 ounces depending on size.
Printing
Pricing for DropShipDTG's direct-to-garment printing service is variable based on weekly client order volume and
average material and labor costs*; the more items we print for your brand each week, the lower the per-print cost!
3 or Less Prints Per Week - $15.00/print
4 to 11 Prints Per Week - $12.00/print
12+ Prints Per Week - $10.00/print
* Please note that the price list above will apply to most print jobs based on the average cost for materials and labor.
If your prints require an unusually high volume of ink, DropShipDTG may not be able to offer the pricing above.
This is because very ink-heavy designs have a higher materials cost since they use more ink and require considerably
more time to print. Scroll down to view an example of this — even though the imprint area for both examples shown
is similar, the print on the right uses significantly less ink since much of the shirt color is incorporated into the final
printed design. Conversely, the print on the left requires much more ink because the design makes less use of the of
shirt color.
This means that prints requiring less ink go through the printer faster. So in addition to the added ink cost, prints that
require significantly more ink (such as the example on the left) also require more time for the printing process to complete.
So if your designs look more like the print on the left, DropShipDTG will have to charge more for your prints. If you're unsure
as to whether your designs will require more ink than usual, our production team will be happy to take a look at your art and
determine if it falls within our standard pricing range! Keep in mind that upcharges for ink-heavy prints are charged per item. So if you have 1 ink-heavy design
there would be an upcharge every time we print that design, but if your other designs use an average amount of ink they would not be charged an additional fee.
Here's an example: If you have an order for 2 small ladies t-shirts and the art files used an average amount of ink, that order would be charged:
- $6.00 for shirts ($3.00 x 2 shirts)
- $30.00 for printing ($15 x 2 shirts)
- $3.08 for shipping (USPS charges for an 11oz package)
- $1.00 for package handling.
So your total cost for this order would be $40.08. (If you sent a total of 12 separate print jobs the same week your cost would be $30.08 since your print jobs would all be $10.00 each instead of $15.00).
If you sold your tshirts to your customers for $25.00 each and charged $5.00 for shipping, you'd make $14.92 on the order above, assuming you only sent 3 or fewer print jobs that week (if you sent 12 print jobs that week you'd make $24.92). How you price your t-shirts and shipping is entirely up to you. We invite you to compare our service to other POD services.
